What is RISO print?

Risograph printing is a little bit like the process of screen-printing where you print one layer at a time. You feed the machine with a grayscale PDF – one file per colour. A master made of rice paper is made automatically, and the RISO will print the colour that is in the machine-pressing colour through the master. If the design has several colours, the paper must be run through once per colour.
 
The advantages of risoprint are many. The method is more eco-friendly than other common printing methods, as very little electricity is used in the process, the colours do not have to be fixed using heat, and the inks are soy-based. Unlike digital printing, there is no option to print in standard ink colors like CMYK. This means the creative possibilities with color are endless.

There is a unique aesthetic when printing RISO. The expression is a combination of vivid colours, fine details and a unique texture.

Something cool to say about the colours

Vibrant colours

Right now we have 4 colours for our RISO, which may not sound like much. But the colours are translucent and can easily be mixed into even more colours. Take a look at our mixing charts to get an idea of how to mix the colours in your artwork.
 
The inks being translucent also affects the way they look when printing on coloured paper. The RISO printer should preferably be fed with uncoated paper – otherwise the colours will take forever to dry.

Workshops

This winter, we plan on hosting different RISO workshops.

INTRODUCTORY SESSION 3 hours
Get an introduction to risograph printing. Get a hold on the basics when preparing your artwork and choosing paper and colour.
Price: DKK 600,-

RISO PRINT YOUR OWN POSTER 4 hours
We go through the basics when RISO printing. We make your artwork ready and print it on the RISOprinter. You will get to take 5 posters home that you’ve printed yourself, ( 1 design in 5 copies).
You must have the design ready before the workshop.
Price: DKK 750,-

MAKE YOUR OWN NOTEBOOKS 4 hours
Design your cover for the notebook, print it on the RISOprinter and learn how to bind it by hand.
Price: DKK 750,-
